Magda Tsolaki-Deloudi shares her fashion tips when the wind goes wild in Mykonos.

I love Mykonos and that is a fact, although there are some days when the weather can be tricky and challenging. On these days the winds change their mood and blow North. And strong. Sometimes unrestrained as if they tell us to move in order to let them continue working undisturbed – not that they have ever been hindered! But my style has to remain unruffled – so is my mood- by selecting pieces that are protective, comfortable and classy at the same time, despite the boisterous wind.

Here are my picks and faves when it comes to windy days in Mykonos: First of all we have to avoid the North side of the island and its beaches, such as Panormos, the bohemian Agios Sostis, Kalafatis and Ftelia – unless you are a wind surfer- and prefer Psarou Beach the best spot for windy weather, always calm and tranquil. Also Platis Gyalos is a good choice. Sometimes we choose to skip swimming, then we go for a stroll downtown at Chora.

“In the same cool, stylish and island-ish mood, I love to combine the look with sandals or espadrilles”.

So, let’s get practical: First of all we have to avoid hats like fedoras or large brims and go for visors (every big brand has at least one to suggest). I love long dresses and sarongs that I match with a Tee for a cooler look; one that takes you from the beach to the restaurant. In the same cool, stylish and island-ish mood, I love to combine the look with sandals or espadrilles.

Sometimes I have to go for a windbreaker jacket or at least for an extra-large scarf. The final touch are the big shades that complete my look and protect me eyes from wind and dust. Last but not least: never forget the sunscreen because the cooler temperatures may fool you and the sun remains always strong!
