PERFECT, SEXY BEACH HAIR

The perfect beach hair (which means lighter tone and sun dried texture) is the favorite hairstyle for the Summer and it can be achieved actually easy, at home. It requires two steps and just one product. But if you prefer to get spoiled by the pros, that’s OK too. All About Mykonos gives you all the alternatives.

Legendary fashion editor and Harper’s Bazaar’s “Why don’t you?” columnist, Diana Vreeland, has been widely referred to for her extravagant quotes. Among many other quotes, the poshest statement of all has to be the following, referring to achieving “dreamy lighter hair tones”. It stems straight from her “Why don’t you?” column and goes like that;

“Why don’t you… Rinse your blond child’s hair in dead champagne to keep it gold, as they do in France?”

Ever since I read that quote from Vreeland, it has rattled around my head as something to take into consideration, but then I couldn’t help but wonder; who keeps dead champagne in the cellar? Besides the elegant symmetry of that statement (and the funny idea about dead champagne), it is kind of intriguing how this lighter hair tone can be achieved using a “normal” and organic method.

The answer remains the same: lemon-juice. It’s not a myth, we’ve tried it, it really works and it goes like this: Squeeze out some lemons and put the juice into a spray bottle. Spray on just from the mids to ends of your hair and comb through. Keep it off your scalp though because it can cause acid burn to the area.

Then go sit in the sun and have a mojito. Lemon may be drying to your hair but then again beachy hair is also about slightly harmed by sun and salt-water and that’s what makes it so beautiful. So, don’t be afraid to fuzzy up your hair a bit.

An alternative and gentler choice to your hair, that will take multiple attempts and longer time in the sun before achieving the lightened hair you wish for, is chamomile. Start by by soaking four tea bags of chamomile in hot water and after it cools, poor it in a spray bottle and follow the same instructions as before.

And what’s about the perfect beach-texture? The best is usually achieved by doing as little as possible. Before bed, take a shower and wash your hair. Towel dry, use a “surf spray” into damp hair and brush through. Then, loosely twist your hair away from your face on both sides and pin up (don’t twist the ends too tight). Then go to sleep. In the morning, undo the hair, shake out, and break up with your fingers until the waves are not too tight.

But if you prefer professional services for your hair, you can find below a list with the best choices from Mykonos’ top hairdressers and let them do the work for you.
